5.3.1.  Move the CROSS-HAIRS to where you want the dot on the pattern and click the SELECT button again.  You will see the DOT appear at that point.

5.3.2. If you need to place a DOT accurately on a line, SELECT the SNAP function NEARest or INTERsection from the menu before you move the CROSS-HAIRS to the point where you want to place it.  In this case the computer will ask:
insert BLOCK name (or?): bigdot  Insertion point: nearest to
The move the CROSS-HAIRS into position and click SELECT.

5.3.3.  The SYMBOLS are the  one set of commands that do not function properly if you CLICK ENTER to repeat the command.  This is because the commands on the menu contain "macros" that are only activated when SELECTed from the menu.

5.4.  MARKING THE PATTERN WITH NOTCHES OR DIAMONDS

The DIAMOND or NOTCH symbols are for marking seam line matching.  SELECT the DIAMOND or NOTCH combination you desire from the SYMBOLS-MRK pop-down menu and place the same way you did for DOT.

5.4.1.  After you click SELECT to place the DIAMOND, pull the cursor away from it until you will see a white connecting line between the DIAMOND and the CROSS-HAIRS.  The computer will now be saying:
insert BLOCK name (or?): diamond  Insertion point:
X scale factor <1>/corner/xyz:1  Y scale factor (default=X):1  Rotation angle <0.00>:

5.4.2. The line you see between the CROSS-HAIRS and the DIAMOND or NOTCH is a "lever handle" by which you can "drag" the DIAMOND or NOTCH around in a circle, thus placing at the correct angle to the seam line.  Once you have the angle as you want it, click SELECT.

5.4.3.  USE EXPLODE AND EXTEND TO ESTABLISH NOTCH PLACEMENT FOR SEAM LINES

If you are marking a pattern with the traditional "notches" used in the garment industry to indicate sewing start points in relation to seam allowance width, you may need to perform an extra step to ensure accurately angled placement.
The challenge is to accurately place the notches on the edge of the seam allowance to mark the position of the seam lines.   The best way to establish these positions is to EXTEND the seam allowance to touch the seam allowance line.

5.4.3.1. SELECT EXPLODE on the MODIFY pop-down menu.   The computer will say:
            Select object:
SELECT anywhere on the pattern stitch line.
